you give me reasons to write
Many have said to me that I must have been born under an unlucky star; or that God was always smiling on me. You decide.
If it's for me to say, I'd say I've had a few stunningly rotten things happen to me in my life, and when I saw them through, it was because infinitely better things were waiting for me on the other side. Rough times aside, I have had an amazingly, astoundingly, blessed life. God has put me on so many interesting paths....I have wonderful friends; a warm bed to return to and a girlfriend who waits up when I work late; I've an education despite many objections and I've a job which pays the bills and put the food on the table.
I take credit for none of this, life has simply been an endless stream of black-cat luck for me.

The aftermath of a series of celebrations I was not prepared
for: I am not going to pretend I am not happy and grateful about Nic and Cherlyn's surprise celebrations for me.
All in all, I had 4 celebrations; each with an element of surprise, one way or another.
First with my colleagues, then with Hazel, twins, Bea, Sutrisno, then with Nart and last, with the crazy 'housemates'.
In no particular order, thank you all - classmates, colleagues, family, friends; for giving me such a memorable 20th birthday. For the lovely handcrafted/personalized cards, drawing and presents. For the homemade birthday cake. For the Spongebob cupcakes. For the wonderful dinner dates. And for the countless Birthday Wishes that flooded my inbox.

That said, being 20 is nothing spectacular. I'm simply being the object of higher expectations, and lesser leeways. That alone gives me no reason to celebrate but still, I did and enjoyed every single second of it.

hainan, replayedTired and happy after a week in Hainan, I'm back! (Insert angry words) Blogger got hungry and ate a huge chunk of words which I will not re-type.

The weather was divine, the company, what can I say? (:
Moving onto the main - the children were...can I say, untainted by the commercialized world?
The way they shy away from us and then slowly inch closer to us just so they could get a glimpse of our digital cameras was so endearing.
We painted and scrubbed classrooms, it's nothing to brag about to be honest; considering there were only 6 classrooms in total and each classroom not bigger than 3 regular sized storage rooms add up. That's the best example I can come up with for now.
The most rewarding aspect of my service is seeing how much the kids enjoyed our company and their fervor in mastering the few sentences in English, a language totally foreign to them. The emotions that flooded me when they greeted me in halting english when we met around the school grounds was indescribable.
Aside from leaving behind our painting that threatened to rival Picasso's, the laughter, the friendships and the lessons we taught, we left our hearts behind, too.
